dog breeding at nimukama mixed farm
the history of dog breeding at nimukama mixed farm
Putting our passion for dogs aside especially large breeds, the impetus for establishing a professional canine (K9) Dog Breeding unit at the farm was largely driven by the need for farm security. Without a shadow of a doubt most farms at least in Uganda are faced with insecurity, ranging from petty thieves to those that come with the intention to steal, plunder and kill! Faced with such a threat and at times sporadic thefts, it dawned on us to decisively deploy Guard and Protection Dogs.
The farm now is well secured by trained and highly protective dogs. The safety of the farm and all immovable and biological assets (as Accounting Standards defines livestock) are well secured.
The pleasure and benefit of having ‘working dogs’ is phenomenal! Having dogs at the farm has taught us a lot about them, has created in us a passion and the drive to share the benefits of having well looked after, trained and bred dogs with individuals, families and many other parties out there that believe in not having just any dog but a well-bred dog with clear lineage history!
Our insecurity grew into the goal to selectively breed, groom and train guard and protection dogs whose value can be shared with YOU!
Our Dog breeding and training programme is done under the brand name NMF Kennels, a key business unit of Nimukama Mixed Farm.
what dogs do we breed?
Our observations show that, whereas there are many dog breeders out there, few care to follow ethical breeding standards, nor are there many that, care to breed dogs that have superior pedigree lines.
We care and take time to find dogs from superior well-known pedigree lines; some are known to be the best in the world. For example one of our Malinois Male Dog is an import offspring of Berry II. Berry II was the 2010 trial called ''KNPV Stud Dog Trial'' in the Netherlands. It has gone on to father many Police and Military Grade dogs and even exported out of the Netherlands. The Malinois (Belgian Shepherd) is phenomenal!
We believe that Quality is not expensive but priceless, and this drives us to breed only with the best to satisfy our clients with exceptional quality.
The Dogs We Breed at NMF Kennels are mainly 4 these are the German Shepherd Dog, the Belgian Shepherd Malinois, Rottweiler, and the Boer Boel.
The german shepherd dog (gsd)
Watchful, Alert, Curious, Obedient, Loyal, Confident, Courageous, Intelligent
The German shepherd dog has evolved into many breed types in many countries, and even many offshoot breeds all claiming to be improvements on their progenitor.
For someone wanting to buy a German Shepherd Dog the variety of similar dogs must be very confusing.
The belgian shepherd malinois
Watchful, Protective, Alert, Friendly, Hard-working, Confident, Stubborn, Active
The Picture above is of Berry II KNPV Stud Dog in Netherlands – the father to NMF Kennels’ first Male Malinois imported from Netherlands.
This smaller, lighter, highly athletic breed is a cousin to the GSD, descending from Northern European sheepdogs, and developed in the Belgium town of Malines. The name Malinois is derived from name of this town - Malines.
The rottweiler
Devoted, Good-natured, Alert, Steady, Self-assured, Obedient, Calm, Confident, Courageous, Fearless
The Rottweiler originated from Germany because one of their uses was to herd livestock and pull carts laden with butchered meat to market. It is one of the oldest of herding breeds with a history possibly dating back to the Roman Empire. It may be a descendant of ancient Roman drover dogs; a mastiff-type dog that was a dependable, rugged dog with great intelligence and guarding instincts.
The boerboel
Obedient, Confident, Intelligent, Dominant, Territorial
The word "Boerboel" derives from "boer," the Afrikaans/Dutch word for "farmer." Boel is an old Dutch/Afrikaans slang word for dog. Boerboel, therefore, translates as either "farmer's dog" or "Boer's dog" and should be pronounced somewhat like "boo-r-bull." (not Burbull). The Boerboel is the only South African dog breed created to defend the homestead.
